Next week is dead week.  Ask your questions now!

What have we learned?  What are we still sketchy on?

SURPRISE

We're going to build this one from the ground up...

* Basic Skeleton

* Parameters (for creating variables in one function and trying to use them in another)

* Strings (analysis of input)

Interested in learning more?  Professor Wills will be teaching a course on App Inventor this summer!

Don't forget: Fix up your problems on past projects by renaming the project file with "Redo" at the end (i.e.  gameRoom.html becomes gameRoomRedo.html).  I will tell you why very soon.

Now, let's get some practical practice with the skills we've been learning.  Can we have a little Old MacDonald??

For those of you who are not happy with your project scores, I suggest you take the next week or so to look over the items that caused issues.  You may have a chance for retribution

We are in the middle of an off-centered cycle of midterms.  In order to not give anyone an unfair advantage, we'll be discussing something that won't be tested this week.

A little bit of Zen.

Style sheets can affect the entire look of your page. Don't neglect the style!

Now, for our in-class project.

Counters and For

We learned how to find out whether doubles are rolled, and even learned how to keep track of a slot machine coming up cherries.  Now, let's try keeping track of some other things with counters.

Let's practice here.

Now, what if we wanted to use that counter for something else?  Say we wanted to roll the dice five times to see how many times we came up doubles or sevens?  We would need a loop...

This Isn't Working

It isn't you...I hope.  So let's try something new.

We're going to try to work it out, but expectations need to change.  We're going to reverse the standard educational flow.  From now on, you will be expected to become familiar with the material on your own time (read the specified chapters of the book by the dates listed on the syllabus.)  Then, we'll do hands on learning in class.

We'll now have assignments to work on in class each day.  The assignments are expected to be done before you leave, no one should have to spend their own time on them.  For that reason, nothing about them will be posted online.

You will turn these assignments in with your projects.  They will count toward your final dollar amount.

Now, let's group up and get to work on this file.

Let's be Random

First, to finish our Eight-Ball

Next, how can we use the random function for other things?

Great, so now we can do that...how do we check for equality? Use conditional execution.

But, that madlib is a bear.  Don't you have any tips for us?  Yes, I do.  Read the book!

JavaScript

We're going to enter into the world of JavaScript programming.  Buckle your seat belts.

Some things you need to know:

Variables

Algorithms

Functions

Now, let's try it in Aptana!

* Want credit for your CodeAvengers, but didn't log in as required in the assignment?  Be sure to enter a Class code: CIS111KP

* If you aren't on the sign-in sheet, you aren't on Blackboard.

* Security on your 111 folder...it may be there, but your computer has saved it

* Remember to use Piazza!  More than 40 of you haven't checked it at all.

* If I don't answer your question on Piazza, it's because the info is in plain sight (Project Description? Notes from Class? Other Piazza Post?) and I expect you to be able to figure it out for yourself.

* No code in Piazza, please!  Read Pinned Posts!

Okay, now, let's talk about the first project...
